The Strong-Drive SDHR Combo-Head screw is a structural fastener designed for cross-laminated timber (CLT), mass timber construction and general interior applications. These partially threaded, heavy-duty 10 mm (0.390")- and 12 mm (0.470")-diameter structural fasteners are designed to provide excellent connection strength, especially when connecting steel plate or angle connectors to wood. The unique “combination” head allows for the convenience of driving with either a hex-driver bit or 6-lobe driver bit. The SDHR Combo-Head has a friction-reducing, black e-coat finish and optimized hardness profile that mitigates embrittlement issues. A robust, knurled shank and Type-17 point allow for fast starts and low-torque driving, making it ideal for driving into wood without the need for predrilling. The SDHR screws are load rated for shear and withdrawal resistance and designed for dry-service applications.

Please note: The corrosion resistance of black e-coat is equivalent to hot-dip galvanization (ASTM A153, Class D) in wet service conditions during the construction period, described by ICC-ES AC257 Exposure Condition 3. In conditions with prolonged exposure to wet conditions, alternate coatings/materials should be considered.
As and alternative to the original blue-zinc coated version, Simpson Strong-Tie is providing this version of Strong-Drive SDHR Combo-Head screw with an optimized hardness profile, and a black e-coat that provides a non-metallic, friction-reducing coating for interior/dry-service corrosion resistance.
